6 apples, peeled, cored and diced

4-6tbsp water

Crumble topping

100g wholemeal flour (or plain white flour)

75g diced cold unsalted butter

50g porridge oats

50g soft brown sugar

Step 1

Add diced butter to the flour in a large bowl and gently rub the flour in between your fingertips until you have a sandy mixture. then add oats and sugar and mix through

Step 2

Place apples and water in a saucepan and cook gently with lid on for around 10 minutes until slightly softened. Transfer apples to an ovenproof dish.

Step 3

Spread crumble topping over apples and cook in oven at gas 4, 180C or fan assisted oven at 160C for around 30 minutes until golden brown on top.
